Great news for Canadian citizens and permanent residents hoping to reunite with their loved ones! Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin sending invitationsĀ to apply under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

š¬ Who Will Get Invitations?
17,860 invitationsĀ will be sent out over two weeks.
IRCC aims to approve 10,000 completed applicationsĀ this year.
Only those who submitted an āInterest to Sponsorā form in 2020Ā will be considered.
No new intake of interest forms has opened since 2020.
šØāš©āš§ What is the PGP?
The Parents and Grandparents ProgramĀ allows eligible Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and registered Indians to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residencyĀ in Canada.
Due to high demand and limited spots, a lottery systemĀ is used to randomly select sponsors. If selected, sponsors can then submit a full PR application on behalf of their parents or grandparents.
š æļø Didnāt Get Invited? Consider the Super Visa
If you donāt receive an invitation under the PGP, thereās still another option: the Super Visa.
ā What is a Super Visa?
Allows parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 10 yearsĀ as visitors.
Much longer than the typical 6-month visitor visa.
Requires:
Private medical insuranceĀ coverage.
Letter of financial supportĀ from the host in Canada.
Host must meet minimum income requirements.
This is a great alternative for family reunification while waiting for future PGP opportunities.
š Tip:Ā If you submitted an interest form in 2020, be sure to check your inbox regularly starting July 28, 2025!
