🍁 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) Intake to Reopen Soon!

Great news for Canadian citizens and permanent residents hoping to reunite with their loved ones! Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin sending invitations to apply under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

📬 Who Will Get Invitations?

• 17,860 invitations will be sent out over two weeks.

• IRCC aims to approve 10,000 completed applications this year.

• Only those who submitted an “Interest to Sponsor” form in 2020 will be considered.

• No new intake of interest forms has opened since 2020.

👨‍👩‍👧 What is the PGP?

The Parents and Grandparents Program allows eligible Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and registered Indians to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency in Canada.

Due to high demand and limited spots, a lottery system is used to randomly select sponsors. If selected, sponsors can then submit a full PR application on behalf of their parents or grandparents.

🅿️ Didn’t Get Invited? Consider the Super Visa

If you don’t receive an invitation under the PGP, there’s still another option: the Super Visa.

✅ What is a Super Visa?

• Allows parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 10 years as visitors.

• Much longer than the typical 6-month visitor visa.

• Requires:

  • Private medical insurance coverage.

  • Letter of financial support from the host in Canada.

  • Host must meet minimum income requirements.

  This is a great alternative for family reunification while waiting for future PGP opportunities.
