Great news for those waiting on their Canadian Permanent Residence (PR) or Citizenship applications! 🎉
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just updated its online processing time tool, making it much easier for applicants to see where their file stands and how long they might have to wait.

💡 What’s New?
Before this update, you could only see average processing times by program — not personalized to when you actually applied.
Now, IRCC’s new tool gives you:
- An estimate based on your actual submission date, and
- Your place in the queue (how many people are ahead of you).
This means more clarity and less guessing during the long waiting process!
🧭 How the New Tool Works
You’ll now answer two simple questions:
1️⃣ Have you already applied?
👉 Choose “Yes” or “No.”
2️⃣ When did you apply?
👉 Enter your year and date.
✳️ Scenario 1: You’ve Already Applied
If you select “Yes”, the tool will show you:
- Estimated time left until a decision,
- How many people are ahead of you in the queue, and
- The total number of people waiting for a decision.
🧍♀️ Example:
Sally applied to the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) in May 2025.

When she checks in October 2025, she sees:
- ⏳ Estimated time left: 26 months
- 👥 People ahead: About 9,500
- 🕓 Total waiting: Around 13,100
🆕 Processing time for new applicants: 37 months

Pretty detailed, right?
✳️ Scenario 2: You Haven’t Applied Yet
If you answer “No”, the tool will display:
- The estimated processing time if you apply today, and
- The total number of pending applications.
🧍♀️ Example:
Sally’s friend, Rachel, is also interested in AIP but hasn’t applied yet.
When she checks, she sees:
- ⏳ Estimated processing time: 37 months
- 🕓 Total people waiting: 13,100

This helps new applicants decide whether to apply now or plan for later.

No more wondering “Where’s my application stuck?” — now you can see your position in line and manage your expectations more confidently. 🙌
🇨🇦 Final Thoughts
